Nio’s Firefly EV Interior Revealed in Spy Shots

Spy shots of Nio’s upcoming Firefly electric vehicle have surfaced, giving us our first glimpse of the interior. Auto Home, a local automotive media outlet, shared these images revealing key details about Nio’s third brand.

Dual-Screen Setup and Steering Wheel Design

The Firefly model sports a dual-screen setup, featuring an LCD dashboard and a floating center screen. This configuration offers one more screen than Nio’s recently launched Onvo L60.

The steering wheel showcases a two-tone design, staying true to Nio’s family aesthetic. Interestingly, the gearshift is expected to be positioned below the steering wheel, reminiscent of the ID.3’s layout.

Positioning and Pricing

Nio’s CEO William Li has previously likened Firefly to “what Mini is to BMW,” suggesting a focus on compact, stylish EVs. The brand is targeting a price range of 100,000 to 200,000 yuan ($14,200 to $28,400), positioning it in a more accessible market segment than Nio’s other offerings.

Despite its compact size, Li assures that Firefly models will adhere to European five-star safety standards and support battery swapping technology.

Launch Timeline and Specifications

While the first Firefly product is reportedly ready, its launch has been pushed to the second quarter of 2025. The debut model is expected to fall between a small SUV and a compact SUV in size.

Qin Lihong, Nio’s co-founder and president, stated, “The first Firefly product is ready, but the launch of the new brand will be delayed until the second quarter of 2025, given the overall brand sequence.”

Battery Swap Compatibility

In line with Nio’s other models, Firefly vehicles will support battery swapping. However, they won’t be compatible with existing Nio swap stations. Instead, they’ll use exclusive, smaller stations designed specifically for the Firefly line.

EVXL’s Take

The reveal of Nio’s Firefly interior marks another step in the evolution of compact EVs. As we’ve seen with other Nio models, the company continues to push boundaries in EV design and functionality. The dual-screen setup and thoughtful interior layout suggest Nio is serious about competing in the compact EV space without compromising on tech or style.

This move could potentially shake up the affordable EV market, offering features typically found in more premium models. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out against other compact EVs and if Nio can successfully translate its upmarket appeal to a more budget-friendly segment.
