The famed Nürburgring track, where auto giants like Tesla and Porsche have battled for record times, just witnessed an electrifying performance by Rimac’s Nevera. This electric hypercar from Rimac clocked an astounding lap time of 7m 05.298s, overtaking Tesla‘s Model S Plaid by a remarkable 20 seconds. To put it in perspective, Tesla’s record was a formidable 7m 25.231s just a few months ago in May.
What’s impressive is that the Nevera, a powerhouse with a whopping 1,888bhp, was able to set this record despite being pitted against a Tesla family saloon. The gap, though vast, brings forth the prowess of this electric beast. On the day of the record, the hypercar raced on Michelin Cup2R tyres, under the expert guidance of Croatian racing champ, Martin Kodric.
According to Kodric, the day was “one of the hottest days on the track this summer”. Describing the exhilarating experience, he mentioned, “Driving it around the Nordschleife was a real thrill, from launching out of the carousel, with 1,914hp (1,888bhp) being delicately distributed between the four wheels, or pinning the accelerator to the floor down the 1.3-mile straight, pushing well over 240mph.”
What’s behind the Nevera’s groundbreaking speed? The car boasts four electric motors, each powered by a 120kWh battery pack. Touting state-of-the-art tech, it’s hailed as one of the most advanced electric cars ever crafted. Its astonishing speed was evident when it set new acceleration records in May, even surpassing the Koenigsegg Regera.
To sum up this motor marvel’s feat, Rimac‘s tech leader, Emilio Scervo, reportedly expressed, “I’m proud of what we achieved in our first time at the Nürburgring.” He highlighted the blend of “virtual performance optimisation” and on-ground testing, resulting in this outstanding achievement.
The auto world better watch out; Rimac’s Nevera is in the fast lane!
