BMW Motorrad’s fresh introduction, the Concept CE 02, is all about embracing the unpredictable vibrancy of city life. A dynamic ride that lets you seize every city opportunity.
This nimble electric scooter isn’t bound by the standard nine-to-five but thrives in the random encounters and spontaneous detours of urban life, or at least that is what BMW would like you to believe.
Following on the heels of the 2022 CE 04, the BMW CE 02 emerges as a more compact and budget-friendly successor. Its unique design makes a statement with its skateboard-like footrests and attention-grabbing LED lighting, crafting a look that urges you to climb aboard and hit the city streets.
Powered by an electric motor, the Concept CE 02 delivers immediate torque, taking you from zero to pure thrill at up to 55 mph. Its seating arrangement and BMW Motorrad ergonomics promise a comfortable, enjoyable ride through the city’s traffic.
While globally BMW offers two variants, including a model with a 5-hp motor and a 1.96-kWh battery, American consumers will only have access to the high-performance 15-hp version. This model boasts double the battery capacity at 3.92 kWh, promising a range of approximately 56 miles on a single charge and a top speed nearing 59 mph.
However, it’s not all about the ride – BMW Motorrad is also introducing smart glasses. With these on, you get immediate access to essential information such as speed and navigational cues directly in your line of sight. However, their $750 price tag may be a point of consideration for potential buyers.
The CE 02 isn’t just about performance; it’s also about convenience. An optional Highline package is available, offering a 1.5-kW charger, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a smartphone holder, heated hand grips, and an upgraded seat.
Additionally, there’s a standard 3.5-inch display to show speed and remaining range, a USB-C port for smartphone charging, and an app to monitor the bike’s charging status.
Although a 0.9-kW home charging adapter comes standard with the bike, avid riders might consider opting for the 1.5-kW charger. This upgrade significantly reduces the time it takes to recharge the bike, offering more convenience for those frequently on the move.
The CE 02 is an enticing prospect for urban navigation. It carries a substantial starting price of about $8,200, and the addition of the Highline package might bring the total cost close to $10,000.
US BMW Motorrad dealers expect the CE 02 to be available in early 2024. The future of city commuting is almost here, and with the CE 02, you’ll be ready to seize every opportunity the city presents.
