Sky High Creativity in Rivian Drone Capture

In the ever-evolving world of drone videography, creative breakthroughs happen often. One such moment recently showcased a DJI Inspire 3 drone capturing riveting footage of a Rivian electric SUV, being chased by an FPV drone that had a flare attached to it.

The video, a work of art in motion, was brought to life by drone pilot and filmmaker Nathan McBride, who shared it on Instagram. The mesmerizing sequence, he said, was the product of skilled flying, not computer graphics.

“No, these are not special effects,” he declared. “This shot was part of a concept for a spec piece for Rivian, led by Zeppelin Zeerip and Josh Finbow. An amazing crew of talented people worked for 6 hours on this shot, and we’re super excited about the result.”

Using the DJI Inspire 3 drone, McBride noted its particular utility for twilight filming, courtesy of its light-sensitive Zenmuse X9 Air camera. The camera’s ability to operate at a dual native ISO of 4000 allowed for crisp, well-lit footage even in low light conditions.

Collaboration was key in the making of the video. McBride revealed, “Dual operation shot done by Nathan McBride and Colby Elliot,” and the FPV drone’s impressive maneuvers were the work of Luke Bredar, also known as Lukabees.

The adrenaline-charged drone chase stands as a testament to the exhilarating possibilities that drone technology brings to filmmaking. By taking drone videos to the next level, McBride and his team have shown us how awesome things can get when you mix new ideas, skills, and a bit of creativity. Their work is a sneak peek into a future where there’s no limit to what we can do.
