Tesla registered 463 new cars in Sweden in October, up 248% from 133 a year earlier. Tesla’s Norway registrations rose 131%, from 671 to 1,548, while its Danish registrations only increased 34%, from 102 to 137.

Electric Cars Became the Majority of Sweden’s Registrations

Despite its growth in Sweden’s new-car market, Tesla held just 1.9% of registrations. The country registered 24,660 new passenger cars in October, up 2.4% from 24,078 a year earlier, Mobility Sweden reported. Fully electric cars grew from 8,707 to 12,594, raising their market share from 36.2% to 51.1%. Tesla’s increase could have come as electric cars became the majority of new registrations in Sweden for the first time since December 2022.

Tesla Was Norway’s Best-Selling Car Brand in October

Tesla registered 1,548 cars in Norway in October, making them the country’s best-selling car brand, according to road traffic body OFV. The Model Y accounted for 1,429 of those registrations, making it Norway’s best-selling vehicle that month.

Norway registered 15,725 new cars overall, up 41.2%, with electric vehicles accounting for 98.8%. Tesla’s 1,548 cars, a 9.8% share, gave them their strongest October on record. Last October Tesla only registered 671 cars. For January through October, Tesla’s 21,523 Norwegian registrations are still down 3.9% from a year earlier, though their 16.4% share makes them the country’s largest brand this year.

Chinese Brands Reached 22.5% in Norway as Tesla Trailed in Denmark

Chinese automakers captured a record 22.5% of Norway’s October registrations, up from 16.9% a year earlier, electrive reported. Xpeng registered 932 cars and BYD 816.

In Denmark, Tesla registered 137 cars, up from 102 last October, leaving them with a 0.73% market share. BYD, Leapmotor, Xpeng and MG each held larger shares, according to Reuters. Denmark’s 2025 comparison was even smaller than Sweden’s.

Yet Tesla’s Danish registrations are up 47% to 10,126 for January through October, a 5.9% share, according to Mobility Denmark, showing why one month is not a good description of the yearly registrations.

Tesla’s Four-Year Backlog Claim Does Not Measure Europe Alone

Tesla told investors they ended the third quarter with their largest backlog for passenger vehicles in four years, without disclosing its size or giving a European breakdown in the update.

Our earlier coverage showed how incentives affected Tesla’s June results across Europe. In the U.S., Tesla has raised Model Y financing rates four times since August, EVXL reported in October. Neither of these changes will really establish how long this European rebound will last.

EVXL’s Take

October only does not tell the whole European Tesla story. Norway had a first-place finish but remained down for the year. Sweden’s big rebound still left Tesla with under 2% of new registrations, while Denmark’s weak October contrasts with their strong year-to-date growth.

Germany and Britain will show whether the rebound will reach the larger European markets.
