Cybertruck’s “Armor Glass” Fails to Stop Burglar in Atlanta

A owner in Atlanta, Georgia, recently experienced a rude awakening when his vehicle’s supposedly shatter-resistant “armor glass” failed to prevent a burglary. The incident, reported by Futurism, raises questions about the effectiveness of the electric vehicle’s security features.

The Break-In

Anuj Thakker, the Cybertruck owner, shared details of the break-in on Facebook. Security camera footage shows a hooded individual exiting a red sedan parked next to the Cybertruck. The burglar used a tool to pop open the driver’s side window, which shattered but maintained its shape due to an adhesive layer. The perpetrator then peeled down the window, reached inside, and stole an unattended backpack.

Thakker expressed his dismay, stating, “No Alarm, No Notifications to my phone… literally nothing happened just found it like this…”

Cybertruck’s Security Claims

This incident contradicts Tesla’s marketing of the Cybertruck, which has heavily promoted its “shatter-proof glass and tank-like exterior.” The vehicle is equipped with various security features, including an alarm system and the much-touted “armor glass” designed to withstand substantial impacts.

A History of Glass Issues

The Cybertruck’s glass has been a point of controversy since its 2019 unveiling when a demonstration of its strength backfired. During the event, a Tesla designer threw a metal ball at the vehicle’s window, causing it to shatter on stage.

Since its release, there have been multiple reports of Cybertruck glass failures, including damage from hail storms and even a case where a Tesla fan broke the windshield by walking on it.

Broader Quality Concerns

This break-in incident adds to a growing list of quality control issues plaguing the Cybertruck. The vehicle has already been subject to at least four recalls, addressing problems with its wiper motor, accelerator pedal, trunk, and trim pieces falling off.

EVXL’s Take

This burglary incident highlights ongoing concerns about the Cybertruck’s security features and build quality. As electric vehicles continue to gain popularity, manufacturers must ensure that their products live up to marketing claims, especially regarding safety and security. This event may prompt Tesla to reevaluate and improve the Cybertruck’s design.
