Chinese EV manufacturer Zeekr, a subsidiary of Geely, has introduced a revolutionary in-house designed ultra-fast charging LFP battery for its new 007 sedan, pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle charging capabilities. This news was reported by Sawyer Merritt, a known Tesla and EV industry insider.
Charging Speed That Rivals Refueling
The new battery boasts impressive charging speeds:
- 10-80% charge in just 10 minutes
- Over 480 miles (772 km) of range added in 15 minutes
- Peak charging speed of 472kW demonstrated
These figures put Zeekr’s charging technology at the forefront of the EV industry, potentially addressing one of the main concerns for EV adoption: charging time.
Advanced Charging Infrastructure
To support this leap in tecnología de baterías, Zeekr has developed V3 fast chargers capable of delivering up to 800kW charging speeds. This forward-thinking approach ensures that the charging infrastructure can keep pace with advancements in battery technology.
Cold Weather Performance
Notably, Zeekr claims that their new battery maintains its rapid charging capabilities even in cold conditions:
“Zeekr said that the new battery can achieve the same charge performance even in negative 10 degree Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) weather in ~30 minutes using its chargers.”
This addresses another significant concern for EV owners in colder climates.
The Zeekr 007: Affordable Innovation
The new battery technology will debut in Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, set to begin deliveries next week. With a starting price of $30,000, the 007 aims to escriba a this cutting-edge technology accessible to a broader market.
EVXL’s Take
The introduction of Zeekr’s ultra-fast charging LFP battery marks a significant milestone in EV technology. This development could accelerate EV adoption by addressing range anxiety and charging time concerns. As we’ve seen with recent advancements in Tesla’s charging network, the race for faster charging is intensifying. Zeekr’s innovation puts pressure on other manufacturers to keep pace, potentially leading to a new era of EVs that can charge as quickly as refueling a traditional gas-powered vehicle.
