Tesla Tops Luxury Segment in Consumer Satisfaction, Tied with Mercedes-Benz

has maintained its position at the top of the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) for 2024 in the luxury segment, sharing the spot with . This information comes from a recent ACSI study, as reported by Teslarati.

Satisfaction Scores and Improvements

Both Tesla and Mercedes-Benz scored 83 points in the ACSI ranking. While Tesla’s score remained unchanged from the previous year, Mercedes-Benz saw a 4% improvement, largely due to customer satisfaction with its hybrid-electric vehicles.

Despite Tesla’s static score, the ACSI noted significant changes in consumer perception:

“Tesla’s pricing strategy may be helping with value perceptions, while improved complaint handling appears to offset some customer concerns in other areas over the past year.”

The EV Factor

The study introduced a new breakdown of consumer satisfaction by fuel type, revealing that hybrid-electric vehicle drivers are the most satisfied across all categories. This trend aligns with Tesla’s own observations about shifting consumer interest towards hybrid powertrains.

Interestingly, Tesla’s performance significantly impacts the satisfaction gap between electric and hybrid vehicles in the luxury segment. The ACSI report states:

“When Tesla is removed from the calculation, the ACSI gap between hybrid and EVs for luxury customers jumps to 7 points.”

Industry Trends

The luxury automotive sector saw no improvements in industry trends, with reliability of mobile apps and comfort scoring lower than the previous year. Other categories remained steady.

EVXL’s Take

As Tesla continues to dominate consumer satisfaction rankings, it’s clear that the company’s focus on electric vehicles is paying off. This aligns with our recent coverage of Tesla’s ongoing innovations and market strategies. The high satisfaction scores for hybrid and electric vehicles suggest a growing acceptance and appreciation for alternative powertrains among consumers.

Tesla’s plans to introduce the lower-priced Model 2 and its robotaxi service could further solidify its position in the market. As the EV landscape evolves, it will be interesting to see how traditional luxury brands adapt to compete with Tesla’s strong customer satisfaction record.
