GM promete o EV mais acessível com a segunda geração do Chevy Bolt

A General Motors (GM) anunciou planos ambiciosos para sua próxima geração do Chevy , positioning it to become the most affordable electric vehicle (EV) in the US market. This move marks GM’s ongoing commitment to the EV revolution, despite some setbacks and evolving timelines.

GM’s Electric Evolution

GM’s journey in the electric vehicle landscape started with the Chevy Volt in 2010, followed by the Chevy Bolt in 2016. While both cars received praise, the Bolt faced challenges due to battery fire incidents, which were later resolved. Despite these hurdles, GM remains committed to an all-electric future, though the timeline has extended.

CEO Mary Barra supostamente noted, “We said back in 2018 that we’re committed to an all-electric future, but as we this transformation, it’s going to happen over decades.”

Vendas de veículos elétricos que quebraram recordes

At GM’s recent annual meeting, the company highlighted its record-breaking EV sales in May 2024. David Caldwell, GM’s director of finance and sales communications, shared that the company sold over 9,000 EVs in the US and superando os registros mensais anteriores. Os O Lyriq liderou as vendas, vendendo mais de 3.000 unidades em maio.

“We’re seeing strong demand and increases basically across the board,” Caldwell said, emphasizing the growing interest in models like the Chevrolet Blazer EV and the Hummer EV.

Acessibilidade e inovação com o novo Bolt

Looking ahead, GM is focused on affordability with the next-gen Chevy Bolt. According to Marissa West, GM’s senior vice president and president of global markets, the new Bolt is expected to be the most affordable EV in the US, arriving in about a year. The car will be built on the Ultium platform and feature LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, which are expected to reduce costs. The Bolt will be assembled at GM’s Kansas factory, currently producing the Chevy Malibu.

EVXL’s Take

GM’s focus on affordability with the next-gen Chevy Bolt is a promising development for the EV market. Despite previous setbacks, GM is showing strong momentum with record-breaking sales and a diverse lineup of electric models. The new Bolt’s competitive pricing could significantly boost EV adoption, making electric vehicles accessible to a broader audience. As GM continues its journey towards an all-electric future, the next-gen Bolt could play a pivotal role in shaping the EV landscape.
