General Motors (GM) has announced ambitious plans for its next-generation Chevy Bolt, positioning it to become the most affordable electric vehicle (EV) in the US market. This move marks GM’s ongoing commitment to the EV revolution, despite some setbacks and evolving timelines.

GM’s journey in the electric vehicle landscape started with the Chevy Volt in 2010, followed by the Chevy Bolt in 2016. While both cars received praise, the Bolt faced challenges due to battery fire incidents, which were later resolved. Despite these hurdles, GM remains committed to an all-electric future, though the timeline has extended.

The Bolt will be assembled at GM’s Kansas factory, currently producing the Chevy Malibu.

The new Bolt is anticipated to fall between the price range of the Nissan LEAF S and the former Bolt, which had a starting MSRP of $27,495. With potential federal rebates, the net price could be around $20,995, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
