Tesla‘s latest social media campaign puts the spotlight on one of the reengineered Model 3‘s most impressive features – its ultra-quiet cabin.
Double-Paned Glass Makes a World of Difference
The Highland update of the Model 3 comes with double-paned glass on all windows, a significant upgrade from the previous generation which only had double-paned glass on the front windows, added in 2020 according to Teslarati. In a recently shared video showcasing the Model 3 Performance in rainy conditions, Tesla demonstrated just how effective this new feature is at noise isolation.
“Ultra silent. New Model 3 brings you significantly improved ambient noise isolation,” Tesla wrote in their social media post.
The EV Noise Challenge
Electric vehicles face a unique challenge when it comes to cabin noise. Without the masking effect of a combustion engine’s sound, road noise becomes more noticeable in EVs. Tesla’s engineering team has tackled this challenge head-on with the reengineered Model 3, creating what reviewers are calling one of the vehicle’s standout improvements.
Affordable Luxury
What’s particularly impressive about this development is Tesla’s ability to deliver premium-level cabin quietness in a reasonably-priced electric vehicle. The implementation of full double-paned glass throughout the vehicle shows Tesla’s commitment to improving the overall driving experience without significantly impacting the Model 3’s accessibility.
However, not everyone agrees. One commenter pointed out that the quietness might be strongly related by the type of tire that is used.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t fully agree. I bought a long range model 3 at the end of August, after having owned a model Y for three years. Unlike the showroon & test drive model 3’s, it does not have Michelin tires, but Bridgestone tires. These are very noisy and have terrible grip. I have contacted Tesla about this in several ways. I get no response. I think this is unacceptable,” said Edward van Baelen before adding that, “Besides that, obviously the best car in the world.”
EVXL’s Take
This development in noise reduction technology represents a significant step forward in making EVs more comfortable and luxurious. Looking at Tesla’s evolution, we’re seeing a consistent pattern of improvements that address real-world driver concerns. The quiet cabin feature could be especially appealing to commuters and families who spend significant time in their vehicles, potentially making the Model 3 an even more compelling option in the competitive EV market.
