SiriusXM Streaming Coming to Tesla Vehicles, Leak Reveals

Tesla owners may soon have a new entertainment option at their fingertips. According to a leaked web post on SiriusXM’s Canadian website, the popular satellite radio service is set to arrive in Tesla vehicles via a future software update, reports not a tesla app.

Streaming-Based Service for All Tesla Models

Unlike the satellite-based SiriusXM currently available in Model S and Model X, this new offering will be a streaming service. This means it will be accessible across Tesla’s entire lineup, including the Model 3, Model Y, and the upcoming Cybertruck.

The streaming version, known as SiriusXM 360L, promises a more comprehensive package:

“SiriusXM 360L includes a full set of exclusive streaming channels, on-demand content, and live sports – all available by streaming data rather than over a satellite connection,” the leaked information revealed.

Pricing and Package Details

While exact pricing for Tesla integration remains unclear, the leak suggests the service may require SiriusXM’s “Platinum” package, priced at $28.80 per month. This would allow streaming to the vehicle as well as other devices like smartphones and computers.

Free Trial for New Users

New Tesla owners won’t have to commit right away. The leak indicates that a 30-day free trial of the Platinum package will be offered upon creating a SiriusXM account.

Impact on Existing Satellite Radio

For Model S and Model X owners currently enjoying satellite-based SiriusXM, the future is less certain. It’s possible Tesla may offer both streaming and satellite options as separate apps, or potentially phase out the satellite receivers in future production to cut costs.

EVXL’s Take

This move by Tesla to integrate streaming SiriusXM aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance its vehicles’ entertainment offerings. As we’ve seen in recent Tesla developments, the company continues to prioritize software-based features that can be easily updated and expanded. The addition of SiriusXM streaming could provide Tesla owners with even more content options, potentially making long drives and charging sessions more enjoyable.
