According to a recent video by tech reviewer MKBHD, Volkswagen’s highly anticipated electric mini bus, the ID. Buzz, is finally making its way to the United States. This modern take on the iconic 1960s VW Bus aims to blend nostalgia with cutting-edge EV technology.
A Nostalgic Design with Modern Twists
The ID. Buzz maintains many design elements from its predecessor, including the prominent Volkswagen logo and flat back. However, it’s noticeably larger to accommodate three rows of seating. The vehicle features 21-inch wheels with aerodynamic discs, sliding doors, and a full-width LED taillight bar.
Spacious Interior with Ample Storage
MKBHD highlights the ID. Buzz’s impressive interior space:
“This is an expansive second row and then you have this little window here… I want to show you the actual back seat because this is just the middle row and typically the third row every vehicle I’ve tested so far the third row is the most compromised so I just want to show you what it’s like in the ID Buzz because it’s not.”
The vehicle boasts numerous storage compartments, including double-decker door storage, hidden cup holders, and a removable center console.
Tech Features and Practicality
The ID. Buzz comes equipped with a digital instrument cluster, infotainment screen, wireless charging, and multiple USB-C ports throughout the cabin. It also features a smart glass sunroof that can be electronically tinted.
Range and Pricing
Despite its appeal, the ID. Buzz faces some challenges:
“The range on the mini bus is not great. So we’re looking at 250 Mi of range really maxed out,” MKBHD notes.
The starting price is expected to be around $60,000.
EVXL’s Take
While the ID. Buzz’s range may not be class-leading, its unique blend of nostalgia and practicality could make it a compelling option for families and VW enthusiasts alike. As we’ve seen with other electric vehicles from various manufacturers, sometimes the emotional appeal and unique features can outweigh raw specifications. The ID. Buzz’s spacious interior and clever storage solutions might just be enough to win over buyers looking for something different in the electric van market.
