Jeep has unveiled its first electric model for the US, the Wagoneer S, a premium SUV with an estimated 300 miles of range. The Launch Edition, the only trim announced so far, starts at $71,995 and goes on sale this fall. More affordable versions will follow.
What’s New with the Wagoneer S?

Jeep originally promised a 400-mile range but has now revised that to 300 miles. The SUV is built on Stellantis’ unibody STLA Large platform with a 100.5 kWh battery, although it has a 400-volt architecture rather than the faster 800-volt systems in other STLA Large platform vehicles.

Jeep emphasizes the vehicle’s advanced interior tech. The dashboard includes a 45-inch glass display, with a 10.25-inch passenger display running on Stellantis’ Uconnect system. The instrument cluster and central display both measure 12.3 inches and support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Concurrents et position sur le marché
While the Wagoneer S isn’t the electric Wrangler that many anticipated, Jeep fans are excited about the brand’s first battery-electric model. Jeep has seen competition from other electric SUVs like the Rivian R1T and R1S, as well as electric trucks from Ford and GM.

Jeep’s marketing strategy, under new CEO Antonio Filosa, includes positioning the Wagoneer S against the Tesla Model Y, despite the Tesla being $20,000 cheaper. Jeep has bet big on interior screen real estate and a sleek design to attract buyers.

EVXL’s Take
The Wagoneer S marks a significant step for Jeep into the electric vehicle market. With its advanced tech, unique design, and powerful performance, it has the potential to make a strong impression. However, its premium pricing may be a barrier for some customers. As Jeep aims to electrify half of its sales in the US by 2030, the success of the Wagoneer S will be crucial in shaping the brand’s future.
