China’s Xpeng broadens self-driving capabilities to Beijing

In a bold move to cement its position in the electric vehicle industry, China’s Xpeng Inc broadened its self-driving capabilities to Beijing on Thursday. This step marks another milestone in the wider deployment of its City Navigation Guided Pilot (City NGP) across mainland China.

City NGP, now functional in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing, is planned to reach dozens more cities within the year, as per Xpeng. With this launch, Xpeng becomes the first company to offer an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) in Beijing’s urban regions, applicable on main ring roads and expressways.

Certain Xpeng models like the G9 Max, P7i Max, and the P5 P version can access City NGP. In its bid to outshine American competitor Tesla, Xpeng disclosed plans in March to upgrade its advanced driver assistance software and make it accessible to all Chinese drivers by 2024. This ambitious strategy demonstrates Xpeng’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the electric vehicle industry.
