Windshield defrosting problems to be resolved in recall of 26,681 Teslas

Tesla has issued a safety recall for 26,681 cars in the United States because a software error may cause windshield defrosting problems, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Tesla recalls 26,681 cars to address windshield defrosting problems

Tesla informed US authorities that the software error may cause a heat pump valve to open unintentionally, causing the refrigerant to be trapped inside the evaporator.

Some 2021-2022 Modell 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2022 Model Y vehicles may not meet a federal motor vehicle safety requirement. Tesla will correct the situation with an over-the-air software update.

Tesla said it was unaware of any injuries or collisions as a result of the most recent recall, while NHTSA stated that in certain circumstances, the new windshield design may reduce visibility.

Te recall was prompted by consumer complaints in December about poor heating performance in intense cold weather, reports Reuters.

Tesla released a software update on Jan. 15, according to the manufacturer, as a precautionary measure. After discussions with NHTSA and Transport Canada, new cars being delivered with the software command were subjected to testing to verify their compliance.

The recall to address the software error is the latest in a series of recalls for the electric vehicle manufacturer, which is based in Texas.

Tesla is currently facing intense scrutiny from US authorities and members of Congress, who are demanding answers on several issues. The company has been issuing a series of recalls in recent months, many for software-related concerns.

Since October, Tesla has conducted at least nine consumer safety recalls in the United States as it battles government inquiries into its driver assistance system Autopilot and an onboard game function.
